Uli survived a shark attack that changed his life forever.
More specifically, it was the soundtrack to that attack that would shape his future. As the strains of the iconic “shark theme” from the movie Jaws underscored the terror of the film, he understood the power of sound. Uli left the theater, the score playing over and over in his head, with a renewed sense of purpose: “I want to do that.”
And do that he did. Packing his bags and leaving his home in Stuttgart, Germany, he headed for the lights of Los Angeles, enrolling in the Grove School of Music to study film scoring and conducting. It was there that he met Ron Jones, who invited him to work on scores for the popular television series, Star Trek: The Next Generation. From Star Trek he eventually went on to work for the Walt Disney Company as a freelance composer and orchestrator on Disney’s Goof Troop television series.
Uli returned to Germany in 1993, where he worked with international super group SNAP!, eventually forming his own commercial music company and producing music for a client list that included Nike, BMW, Reebok, Sony, T-Mobile, Coca Cola, Mercedes Audi and Dunlop. At the same time, he was teaching as an Adjunct Professor for the Filmakademie in Stuttgart, where he eventually became the Department Chair of Film Music and Sound Design.
Ready to focus on a new creative challenge, Uli turned his creative focus to songwriting. He secured a publishing deal with Peermusic and found himself ultimately in the songwriting capital of the world: Music City USA – Nashville, Tennessee.
It was in Nashville that Uli would meet Steve Keller, Owner/CEO of iV, LLC, a company that specialized in strategic audio branding. As their friendship grew, Uli would ultimately catch Keller’s vision for building a new kind of company, one that merged Nashville’s creative community of composers, artists, musicians, vocalists and engineers with an emphasis on innovative audio branding strategies. In 2009, he partnered with Steve, and together they launched Frankfurt based iV2, GmbH.
Today, Reese is President of iV2, bringing with him his wealth of experience in the worlds of film scoring, sound design, commercial music, record production, songwriting and academia. He has found in iV / iV2 a place where he can realize his lifelong passion: seeing people moved by the power of sound.
